Rajshahi Medical College


Rajshahi Medical College is a government medical institute located in Rajshahi town. It is affiliated to Rajshahi University. The company was established on 1 July 1958. At the graduate level, MBBS and BDS and MS, M.Phil, MD, MPH and Diploma Degree were offered through 18 faculties. Number of seats in graduation level 200 Apart from this, there are some seats allocated for students of the respective countries.

History:

With the partition of India in 1947, the Rajshahi division separated from the district divisional city of Jalpaiguri and went away in large educational institutions including medical schools, hospitals, as Rajshahi division was deprived of medical education and health services.

Subsequently, in 1949 some teachers, renowned social workers, political elite personalities including those associated with the administration established a medical school in private Rajshahi town. Firstly, four-year LMF diploma course under State Medical Faculty Dhaka. In the first year 80 students were admitted. In the co-operative building school of Saheb Bazar, the school was used as classrooms in the classroom. Medical schools department was established at the lower level of the present TB clinic building. A building was constructed on the west side of the Varendra Museum building, for the dissection of Anatomy department. Unlike Rajshahi College, Alamgir hostels were used as hostels for 'Kachiron villas' girls against boys and civil service offices. In 1954 the then East Pakistan government converted it to a government medical college. In 1958 it became a full-fledged medical college. It started from Rajshahi Medical College (RMC). After the Dhaka Medical College, it is the second medical college of Bangladesh. The first head of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology was Lieutenant Colonel Gias Uddin Ahmed and Professor Dr. Naib Ali, the first Principal of the College. Only 5 office staff started the college. In the first batch, a total of 43 students, including two students, were admitted. The college and hospital complex is situated on about 90 acres of land. The building built for medical school is the current college building built on 30 bighas of land. A three-storied 530-bed hospital was started in April 1965 with the help of medicine, surgery and veterinary department. The hospital building was built on approximately 60 acres of land, which was formerly agricultural farm. 20 beds were included in infectious disease hospital, leprosy control center and 150-bed hospital hospital college. Later the hospital was transformed into dental unit.

In the current college, there are MBBS, BDS and Post Graduate courses in various subjects. BDS courses were introduced in 1992 and postgraduate courses were introduced in 1998. Many students from different countries of Rajshahi Medical College have received education. Among them, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Iraq, Iran are notable. The General Medical Council, Great Britain, recognized the college on 1st July 1992. In 1971, a large number of doctors, students and employees of this college attended the liberation war. In 1974, the Shaheed Minar was built in front of the administrative building of the Medical College. In 2006, a memorial memorabilia was established in the name of six people named Shahid Rajshahi Medical College in the Liberation War on behalf of Shaheed Minar.

College infrastructure and hostels:

There are 4 galleries, 9 laboratories, 2 museums, 2 dissect rooms, 1 post-mortem house, 1 library and 2 students in common room with computer multimedia projector in the college building. In 1990, new pharmacology buildings were built in the east of the main building. On the east side of this building in 1995, a beautiful and sophisticated and air-conditioned 1000-seat auditorium was built in 1995, which is now named as 'Kaishar Rahman Chowdhury Auditorium'. Another new building on the north-east of the main building was built for the Department of Forensic Medicine. It was launched in 2010. There is also a nursing training center in the college premises. The library of Rajshahi Medical College has about 195,000 books and 60 foreign and foreign journals, including a new edition book. The Medical Education Unit provides all the facilities for information technology with internet browsing. The college's research cell helps teachers and students study here. Rajshahi Medical College teacher association 'TAJ' published a medical journal, published within six months, which was approved by BMDC. Shaheed freedom fighter Kazi Nurunnabi and Shaheed Shah Moinul Ahsan Chowdhury for the students of Shaheed Qazi Nurunnabi hostel hostel, Palin, Falguni and Ayesha Siddika There are students. Among them, Ayesha Siddika Girls' Student School was inaugurated in 2006. Shahid Jamil Akhtar Ratan hostel for beginner doctors and separate internation hostel, staff quarters and gymnasium for girls. There is a bus for students to travel.

The first canteen was introduced in this college, next to the hospital kitchen. Later, in 1963, on the north side of the Pathology Department, it was shifted to a tin roof. In 1982, it was started in a storied building called 'Charu Mama Canteen'. Besides, a canteen was built in 2006 near the Panku hostel.

Hospital infrastructure:

The hospital's three-story 530-bed building was started in April 1965. Another new four-storey building has been built in the middle of the main building, which was started in 2012. More 352 beds and 6 operation theater were added, so the total number of hospital beds stood at 862. Another building on the north side of Operation Theater By constructing it, 10-bed ICU was introduced in 2012 and the building was launched in the building since 2014.

In 1984 the coronary care unit was established in local management. In 1990, this care unit became full of cardiology department. In 2014, this division was further extended to the newly constructed building of the hospital. Regular coronary angiogram and pacemaker are being replaced since 2007.

In 1991, the Department of Kidney Disease and Neurosurgery was opened. Hemodialysis has been introduced in kidney disease department since 2004. In 1993 child surgery and neuromedicine were started in 1994. In 1996, the Cobalt-60 machine was introduced for the treatment of cancer.

In 1969, at the campus, the Nuclear Medicine Center was established to provide diagnosis and treatment to Rajshahi. The OCC Center was started in 2002 to provide treatment and legal aid to the abused women. In 2005, CT scan and MRI were introduced in the hospital's Radiology and Imaging Department. In 2007, endoscopy and colonoscopy were introduced. In 1992, BDS courses were started as a dental unit. Nine students were admitted in the first batch but now 50 students are admitted. New buildings of Dental College have been constructed at the former sadar hospital. Transition of dental unit to Rajshahi Dental College is underway in the process.
