The Principles of Human Rights

MAN BEING CREATED WITH HUMAN RIGHTS

Human rights are natural rights inherent or innate rights every person is born with. They are divine rights originating from God almighty. Human rights are rights given to every person by God. God created man with human right. Every person is born with human right.

Human rights are possessed by human beings before their recognition by legal system and not minding their denial by a legal system. A person does not have to do anything to be able to exercise his human rights. When a child is born and he starts growing, he naturally has exercise human rights of fundamental right such as:

  • Right to life.
  • Right to dignity of human person.
  • Right to personal liberty.
  • Right to fair hearing in his informal environment.
  • Right to private and family life.
  • Right to freedom of expression (speak) and the press.
  • Right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.
  • Right to peaceful assembly and association.
  • Right to freedom from discrimination.
  • Right to acquire and own property and so forth.
  • Right to freedom of movement.

Human rights are not given to people by government. The duty of government is to recognize human right and protect them. A way for government to recognize and protect human or fundamental rights is to enact human rights into law, such as a bill of rights chapter in the constitution as we have in Nigeria Constitution, and by making provisions for the ordinary courts of the land to enforce fundamental rights.
