Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology


Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (briefly CUET) is a leading autonomous Government Engineering University of Bangladesh. It is located in Chittagong district of south-eastern Chittagong division. It is located in Raozan thana 25km away from the city of Chittagong. The former name was Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Chittagong and earlier it was Chittagong Engineering College. About four and a half thousand students are studying undergraduate and postgraduate studies in engineering, architecture, urban planning and science.

Location:

Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology is located in Chittagong district of Chittagong district. It is located beside the Chittagong-Kaptai highway at Pahartoli union of Raozan upazila, 25 kilometers from the city of Chittagong. Karnaphuli Hydroelectric Center, which is located in Kaptai, 20 kilometers away from Chuet, the country's largest hydropower plant in Kaptai. The Roujyan thermal power plant, with a capacity of 420 MW, is located beside the CUET campus.

History:

It started on 28th December, 1968 under the Faculty of Engineering of Chittagong University, named 'Chittagong University Engineering College', to establish an engineering school in Chittagong. The admission started from 1968-69 academic year. On 1 July 1986, it was upgraded to Bangladesh Institute of Technology, (BIT) Chittagong. Subsequently, on 1 September, 2003, it was given the status of full-fledged engineering university by a government ordinance [citation needed].
There were also 3 other institutes of Technology named BIT Dhaka, BIT Khulna and BIT Rajshahi, which were later converted to Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology respectively.
Tueque Huda and Md. Shah Nanni, two students of CUET, were martyred during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. In their name, two residential halls of the students are now named after them.

Campus:

Chittagong University of Engineering situated in the Rauzan Police Station, 25 kilometers from Chittagong city's commercial capital city of Chittagong, on the side of Chittagong-Kaptai road. Cuvette campus spread over 169 acres of natural beauty. Inside the campus there are separate faculty for different faculty, administrative building, auditorium, library building, workshop, laboratory, student residence, quarters of teachers, canteens, martyr monuments, banks, mosques, shops, medical centers. Within the campus area there is a natural lake, numerous hills and many types of trees. There is a vast ground inside the campus.

Main building:

  • Civil Engineering Building - It is located in the Department of Civil Engineering and Computer Technology.
  • Electrical and Mechanical Engineering - It is located in the field of electrical techniques, telecommunications techniques, mechanical and mineral resources.
  • New academic building - This building is located in the Architectural and Town Planning Department.
  • Pre-Engineering Building - This building has mathematics, physics, chemistry, humanitarian department.
  • Administrative Building - All administrative work is done in this building.
  • Engineering Building - Engineering assistance and other works on the development work of the university are regulated from this building.
  • Library building - Library is located in this building.
  • Auditorium - Various cultural events are organized.
  • Gallery - There are two galleries, called East and West Gallery, where various seminars and discussion meetings are organized.
  • Workshop - There are Woods, Machine Shops, Welding Shops of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Department.

Medical center:

The CUET Medical Center has all the necessary facilities for primary treatment. It's 20 beds. The required number of doctors are engaged in medical treatment. Serious patients were taken to the adjacent hospital, which is located about 10 km from Cuite.

Mosque:

There are 560 square meters of mosque in Cauay for a student, staff and teachers on campus.

Canteen:

There are 3 canteens inside the university. Meanwhile, two Canteen University Gate is located on the entrance inside the campus and is located on the back of another civil engineering building.

Auditorium:

The University campus has a central auditorium complex of 500 seats. All modern facilities are available in it. Various seminars, cultural shows, fairs, film festivals etc. are organized in the auditorium of the year.

Library:

The two-storeyed building of the university library is located at the center of the campus. The library has all the modern facilities. Here, there are about 200 students together to read together in an air-conditioned environment. There is a huge collection of references and journals in the CUET library. Students can take books from the library card through the library. Every day five different newspapers are kept. Besides, there are several regular editions of several magazines. There is also a photostat arrangement for the students. There are many computers with internet connectivity for students to use.

Transport system:

For the transportation of CUET students, the University has its 7 buses to travel between campus and city on weekly working days. Buses take students from the city three times every working day. CNG-Atorixa and limited number of buses are operated on the Kaptai-road as a general transport. But after 8:00 pm, the normal transport bus service was stopped. Journey of the University bus: 1. From 5:30 to 6:00 all buses leave the campus. At 7:00 pm, from New Market, they travel to the campus again. 2. At 2pm, Kaptai from the campus goes to the head of the road and immediately returns. 3.Bikal leaves the campus at 5:00 and runs the New Market. The buses from New Market leave for the campus at 8:00 pm.

The university's bus population is less than necessary. Buses are forced to carry about twice the number of passengers. Some of these buses have passed their effective period.

Admission:

Students in CUET graduate level-1-term -1 are admitted. The selection of the admission student is done through a strict competitive examination. Usually the admission form is given in October or November. If there is a minimum grade point in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English in the Higher Secondary Examination, then an admission form can be collected. A list of 7000 people who are eligible to participate in the admission test is published according to the highest grade points mentioned in the four subjects mentioned in the admission test. The admission tests for these 7000 candidates were taken and the best 711 of them were admitted. "A" and "B" admission tests are accepted in these two categories. Only for Engineering departments and Urban Planning Department, Participation in the "B" section and for Engineering departments, Urban Planning and Architectural Department. The examination of "A" section is taken in written form and in addition to the "B" category admission students are required to participate in the free open drawing examinations.

The CGPA obtained from the graduate level for admission to the postgraduate and PhD is considered and the admission seekers are interviewed.

Academic calendar:

There are two terms in each level (in the academic year) in the undergraduate category. After completion of level of work, a student completes his graduation. These two terms are term-1, term-2 and short term. Term 1 and 2 for every 19 weeks and during the short term 2-week class. Class 1 and 2 weeks for 13 weeks, mid-term 1 week. Term Break 1 Week Test Prep Preparation 6 days before every test, Super DL method. 5 week exams are held. 5 business days per week. Weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday. The results of all the exams are published in grading method .

Medium of education:

The medium of education in CUET is English. The medium of the test is also English. Besides, English is also used in all administrative activities. According to the syllabus published by the University Grants Commission, the lessons were taught here. The same syllabus was followed in four government engineering universities of the country.
