Barisal University
Barisal University is one of the largest educational institutes in the Barisal Division of Bangladesh and 33rd Government University of the country. The university started its education program on January 25, 2012.
Location:
Barisal University's main campus is located in Karnakati on the east bank of the Kirtankhola river of Barisal Division.
History:
Before the independence of Bangladesh in 1960, the demand for a university was made. During a city rally in 1973, the then Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman announced that a University established in Barisal which he desired was his President Ziaur Rahman expressed his desire to establish a university in a rally in 1978 in Barisal Circuit House. After three decades Barisal passed the proposal from the strong demand of the people on November 29, 2008 ECNEC (Executive Committee of National Economic Council), then by the caretaker government. On November 22, 2011, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina started building the university building. Education Minister Nurul Islam inaugurated the academic activities of the University through the hoisting of National Flag at the 11th of January, 2012 at the temporary campus of Barisal Zilla School. The original campus is scheduled for 2013 at Karnakati in Sadar upazila on the eastern bank of the Kirtankhola river. There is a full-fledged campus in the Karnakati area on the bank of the Kirtankhola River, where all the department's education programs are being run.

The university's campus is located on the bank of the river Kirtankhola beside the city. At present, the campus area is 50 acres. This size will be further enhanced in the future. Here the educational activities of all departments are run. The university campus is located in the middle of two long bow-shaped bridges called Dappapayya Bridge. Two bridges have reached the end of the university which gave different campus to the university campus. The campus has two students, a student hall, a cafeteria building, a library building, two dormitories, two academic buildings and two administrative buildings. There are also several lakes, including the residence of the VC.
