Bangladesh University of Engineering

Bangladesh University of Engineering (English: Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology; briefly: BUET / BUET) is the leading engineering-related higher education institute in Bangladesh. It is located in Palashi area of Dhaka city. About 5,500 students studying undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in engineering, architecture, planning and science.

History:

Primary stage:

BUET was established in the late nineteenth century as a survey school for the surveyors. In 1876 the then British government started an institution named Dhaka Survey School. Its purpose was to provide technical education for employees of British government employees at that time. In 1905 Khwaja Ahsanullah of Dhaka was interested in this school and donated 1.12 lakhs rupees for the development of Muslim education. In his great contribution, it was later promoted as a self-contained engineering education and in 1908 as its recognition, the university was named Ahsanullah Engineering School. Ahsanullah Engineering School started with a three-year diploma course in Civil Engineering, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. At the beginning the activities of the school are in a rented building. In 1906, its own building was constructed near the Shahidullah Hall of Dhaka University in the government initiative. A high chimney in the place used to carry this memory a few days ago. In 1920 it moved to the current position.

Initially the school was affiliated with Dhaka College. Later, it started operating under public education. Mr. Anderson became the first Principal. Then in 1932 Mr. B. C. Gupt and Mr. Hakim Ali were appointed Principal in 1938.

After the Second World War:

After World War II, the government took a comprehensive plan for industrialization of Bengal. There was a lack of skilled manpower in the region. A committee appointed by the then government appointed a engineering college in Dhaka for 120 students in the 4-year degree course in the machine, electrical, kami and agricultural engineering and transferred the school to Palashi Barracks, for 480 students in 4 years Diploma Course in Pur, Instruments, and Electric Tactics. Recommend it. In May 1947, the government decided to set up a Engineering College in Dhaka and for the admission of students, the Bengal Engineering College of Shibpur, presently in West Bengal and the examination was held at Ahsanullah Engineering School in Dhaka.

After partition:

As a result of the partition of 1947, all of the remaining teachers, except a handful of teachers in Ahasanullah Engineering School, went to India and 5 teachers from India joined this school. In August 1947, it was upgraded to Ahsanullah Engineering College as a Faculty of Engineering under the University of Dhaka. Principal of Mr. Hakim Ali was appointed.

In February 1948, the then East-Pakistan Government approved this college and it was awarded a four-year Bachelor Degree in civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, textile engineering and three-year diploma in civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Start doing But in the end, instead of agriculture and textile, metal engineering was included. In 1956, the semester system was introduced in the college and the new curriculum was approved. In 1957, the number of seats in the degree course was increased from 120 to 240. In 1958 diploma courses were closed from the college.

In 1951, T. H. Mathematics and in 1954 M. At the Rashid became the Principal of the college. After this, the joint management agreement with the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (now University) and Ahsanullah College has been signed, and from there, professors have played an important role in improving the quality of teaching, laboratories and curriculum. Some teachers for postgraduate studies in Texas for improvement of teachers And M. Sent to college. At the time, the Foundation Foundation Library was given some essential books and rental tradition was introduced. While in college, there were only two hostels for the students: Main hostels (presently Dr. MA Rashid Bhaban) and South Hostel (current Nazrul Islam Hall)

As a university of engineering:

On 1 June 1962, it became a full-fledged engineering university and was renamed East Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology, or EPUET. Technical Education Director Dr. M. At the Rashid became the first Vice-Chancellor. Professor A. M. Ahmed was the first dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Famous mathematician M. At the Jabbar's first registrar and Mamtazuddin Ahmed were appointed first comptroller. Dr. M. At the The university is established on a firm foundation under the leadership of Rashid.

After the establishment of the university, three new residential halls were built for the students. Prof Kabiruddin Ahmed was appointed as the first student welfare director. In 1962 architecture division was first formed in the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, for this division in Texas. And M. Some college teachers joined. In this way engineering and architecture, the two universities started the University of Engineering with the complete, machine, semi-kami and metallurgical engineering and architecture division. To meet the growing demand, the number of seats increased from 240 to 360 in 1964. In the same year the construction of the 7-storey civil engineering building started. In 1969-70, the number of seats was increased to 420. During this time a new division was started in the Faculty of Planning and Planning. It later became the urban and regional planning department.
